I just realized that I haven't blogged in almost 2 years!!! What is WRONG with that??? Probably the fact that a million and one life changes have happened, and I've not sat n' put "Pen to Paper" and shared my thoughts.
Divorce and separation SUCKS SHIT... that's first and foremost on my mind today. Being self supporting, while attempting to give my kids the life they've grown accustomed to their whole life is a feat best left to those with a shitload of money... but adjustments are made, and expectations are lessened by the base necessities of life and living.
Work is now sales with Belt Drive Betty Media... and things are slowly progressing with that... Otherwise, I'm still a reporter, and still writing articles for BDB & The Rider's Mag. No men at this time in my life, leaves me open to enjoyable times dating and getting to know others on a deeper plane than previously done while married...
Friends with Benefits IS the way to go... No attachments, no explanations, and NO ONE to tell you what to do, how to do it, or where to do it.
It's wonderful to have control over your own destiny..... WITHOUT influence by egotistical, egocentric, opinionated assholes..... ('nuff said about THAT)...
Sun's shining, and although broke.... Life is GOOD !!!
More articles and things to come... I PROMISE !!!
I've heard of this event occuring in the past, and have read the write-ups that Critter has done on this event, and it was a wonderful surprise to find that my boss at Bigga Joe's had gone n' purchased tickets to this event for me & my hubby to attend as her guest. I was pumped and excited to meet a bunch of new people and introduce myself to a whole crew of new people.... And, as an example of just HOW SMALL the biker community really is in this province, I found out my internet buddy, Tammy and her man would be there as well!!! HOW COOL !!!! Being that I live hours away from anything/anyone/any event..... preparations for me to attend anything is a long extended situation. I always need to leave at least 3 - 4 hours prior to anything, which makes for extremely long days and nights.... Hubby & I left around noon, to make it to our hosts house in Uxbridge for 3 pm, to have time to settle in at her place and then make it to dinner reservations close by. We arrived on time for once, for dinner, along with 16 other people, and kudo's to the restaurant for keeping track of everyone's order,, and actually getting it RIGHT !!!!..... it was a cold, windy, crappy night, weather wise, so the extended after dinner camraderie was cut short as we all made our way to Musselman's Lake for the Throttle Itch. Upon arriving and parking, hubby & I were a tad taken aback by the venue... a lakeside community center. well, I must say... it's a GREAT place to hold a party !!!! The bar was huge, the tables and seats were plentiful and the people just PACKED it full !!! There had to be 450 people EASY in the place, with room to spare. the side room was loaded with silent auction items, and NONE were cheapy tacky things either!!! and the door prizes were so plentiful, that no one had to leave the party empty handed unless they wished to do so. The Blades are a very tight group of motorcyclists who believe it's their responsibility to take care of the children, and they do this in a most enjoyable, friendly and open arm type of way, without making their guests feel obligated to lend a hand. This is a very difficult feat to pull off, considering the amount of fundraising that the biker community does. The proceeds of this event are all being donated to the Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes to children suffering from Cancer and other debilitating diseases .....
Another show is done n' over with.... successful for sure, and filled with everything ANY rider could ask for.... 6 halls of amazing chrome, swag and bling..... I spent the whole day on Sunday wandering around, working at a few booths.... The Ontario Chrome Divas booth in Hall #1, where the beautiful women who are a part of this great organization raised over $700 by emptying out the guys pockets of all their change in just a few hours..... we'll save the boobie's a quarter at a time with our determination and continuous fundraising, of this I'm positive!!!! after a quick lunch break, I was back at my duties, wandering around the show, trying to shop for a new leather vest..... with NO luck what-so-ever, and finally deciding to just have one made to order for myself .... I'm not sure whether I'm just picky., or just have an idea in my head of what I want, and need..... Later on in the afternoon, I made my way into the Custom Hall #5, to venture over to The Rider's Mag booth, after shooting a pile of pix of the priceless customs that were to be found.... some we've seen before, and some new to us all..... Handing out Mags is always fun and exciting, with piles of guys happy to have one, and their wives shooting me dirty looks when I insist that it's a GREAT Magazine to have in their possession.... I personally don't understand those women who shun and won't allow their men to even LOOK at another woman... whether due to jealousy or their own insecurities.... Personally, I couldn't care less WHERE my hubby gets his appetite, as long as he comes home to eat!!! It's too bad others aren't confident enough, or open minded enough to understand that !!!!! ANYHOW..... later in the afternoon, the crowds begin to gather in Hall 5 for the presentations of the thousands of awards that are available at this show.... Bar Hodgson has again presented the City of Toronto and surrounding areas with a fabulously attended show, and amazing eye candy that this province and others has to offer in their skilled talents at bike building and presentations. The Chrome Divas and her members won quite a few show trophy's., and our booth received runner-ip status recognition for our very well put together booth.... THANKS LADY'S For all your efforts!!!..... It was a long tiring weekend,. but wonderful to say hi to all my friends, associates and club members..... to those I missed, Happy Belated New Years, Merry Christmas and alla dat stuff.... I think at the next show, I'm gonna keep a "Hug Counter" to see just how many people I hug........
This event has become a permanent fixture on my calendar of events each year. The friendship, the welcoming smiles and the fabulous bikes and people make this a “MUST DO” for all. Weather doesn’t seem to affect the Church and its people, but the trip there and home was most CERTAINLY a wet one… I’ve found that as long as you don’t do anything suddenly, and the ambient temperature of the wind in your face is summertime heat wave type warmth, then riding in the rain isn’t ½ bad!!!! Everyone I was riding with pulled over about 30 minutes from our destination to put on their rain suits, as I began to feel the slow seeping of water into my nether regions below, with only my jeans and chaps on… and yes, I’ve admitted to being a fair weather rider, but I feel confident enough with my abilities at this point to venture into the unknown realm of rain riding….although I wasn’t prepared for it this day!!!
We arrived with no incidents, which made for a wonderful trip, soggy that it was…. Although upon investigation, it seemed that whatever rain there WAS, was about to go away as I set out to “work” by snapping pictures as fast as I could! Greetings and hugs were given all around…and what a sight to see!!
The chrome and metal was all polished and pristine, and those caught in the showers were busy making sure there were no spots left behind. Wandering around and socializing, snapping pictures and lending a hand with the 50/50 draw while enjoying the full sun at this point, it seemed like this day was going to turn out better than expected. Everyone was asking me about the new trophy that was added to the huge roster of trophies being handed out this day, and that was the prize for Best Tattoo, as I was designated as the judge in this competition. I KNEW I was going to have a hard time deciding, as just the people I am friends with, have some AMAZING artwork, and I have been admiring it for weeks and months, and I knew they would be there, so I asked Pastor Dave to assist me in the decision making, but in the end, I had to choose… What an honor to be asked to do this for KBC, but I tell you, it was NO easy decision to make!!!
Around 2 pm, Pastor Dave announced that those who wished to enter into this part of the day were to gather at the entrance, and we were able to utilize a room in the church for some privacy, as we went down the list of entrants and took pictures of each of the tattoos they wished to have taken into consideration. WOW is pretty much all I can say about all the artwork that I was able to see. After everyone had a chance to pose and tell us a little bit about each of their tattoo stories, they left us to decide. We scanned the pictures, one by one, and managed to narrow the choice to 5, then to 3, then to 2, when I finally decided I needed to see the 2 of them again up close…. So out we went, and I asked the 2 guys to show them to me again. This time, I got up close and personal, choosing to look at the quality and thoroughness of the artist in creating his/her piece, and using that as the deciding factor, made my choice of the winner. (BOY I was glad when THAT was over with!!) I have to give kudos to judges of these show n’ shines, because I don’t care what anyone says, it’s HARD to pick just one!!!! Now it was time for the games to begin. I love the fact that KBC changes things up each and every year to keep things fresh and new to the people who come to support them and this great event year after year. My buddy Jawny’s lady was unable to attend on this great Saturday, so I offered to participate in the games if he wanted to play, as my previous years partner, Vinny, of The Brotherhood MC fame was absent today (I was so sad….) But with what the weather was doing everywhere else in the province, I could understand why… 1st up was a tire toss event, where the partner on the p-pad would hold 5 ten speed bicycle tires, as the rider rode slowly enough, and away from, a line of pylons, while the passenger had to toss the tires around the pylons…. GOOD LUCK with that!!! It was challenging and after 3 runs, I only managed to get 1 tire over 1 pylon!! YEESH! So much for THAT trophy, huh?? Hahaha!!! At this point, Jawny asked that I step down from partnering with him, so that he could take another person along for the games, and I was more than obliging, as I didn’t mind NOT playing, and wanted to give some others a crack at the prizes. 2nd up was a single rider event called Ball Pick up, where 4 tennis balls were placed on little kid t-ball stands, and the rider has to pick each ball up as he passes the stands, turn around and place the balls back onto the t-ball stands to win… it was nothing short of hilarious to see the interesting places the guys were putting their balls, while still trying to maintain SOME type of control over their motorcycles…. 3rd game was the Balloon toss, of which I was demoted from the championship this year… although I gave experienced advice to all the lady’s participating on how to win the trophy, and it was proved that my methodology was sound, as once they got the “hang” of it, they succeeded admirably. Last but not least, was the infamous weenie bite, again, with mustard being the condiment of choice, it makes for pretty funny pictures when the lady’s aim is off, and the men can’t seem to slow down enough for their partners to grab a bite going by. The shock of all shocks was that this day, a MAN decided to participate in the Weenie bite, and for some strange reason looked reasonably comfortable doing this sport, and although a few others who were watching the game changed a few shades of green and walked away, the others still managed to cheer on the women. Shortly after the winners were declared, we got down to the serious business of handing out the trophies for the Show N’ Shine portion of this great and wonderful day. The following are the results of the judges, Bernie Guindon & Bob Edwardson of Full Throttle Motor Company fame. Best in Class - John Hamilton Best in Show - John Hamilton Judges Trophy - Ron Carpio Best Represented Club – Was taken away from the Brotherhood this year by “The Kawartha’s” Best Vintage Japanese - Jim Lamore Best Vintage Harley - Rick Gibson Best Paint - Michelle McKenna Best Mural - Tony Rizzo Best Plating - John Hamilton Best Harley Davidson - John Hamilton Best Sportster - Tony Rizzo Best Japanese - Mark Hale Best Sport Bike – Cookie (((ME!!! Without all of you, none of this could be possible. A special thanks from me to my riding mentor, Chico for another great and safe ride, even IN the rain…. My confidence & abilities grow each time I’m out with his 55 years of knowledgeable experience & guidance. Let me end this by saying I completely look forward to another great event next year, same time, same place, and hosted by the same wonderful, caring, loving people…. as always….. I remain a dedicated supporter of you and everything you stand for!!!!
On a cool but sunny Saturday, I headed out from home around 8:30 am to meet a few members of The Brotherhood MC and Pastor Dave and his crew from Kawartha Biker’s Church, to all ride down together to Trenton for the 1st Annual Highway Of Heroes Ride that was hosted by The Perfect Pigs MC. As I pulled into our meeting spot, and parked and shut off my bike, I took off my helmet and everyone took one look at my face and asked me what was wrong…. I’d just had a near death experience, when riding down my road, with nothing in my sights, no cars, no nothing, when all of a sudden a teeny tiny baby deer decided it was going to make the leap of faith and land RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME while I was clipping along at 100 km/hr!!! OH MY GOD…. It must’ve been my guardian angel watching out for me this morning, because thanks BE nothing happened to me OR the baby deer… I couldn’t even get off my bike for like 10 minutes, and 2 smokes later!!!..... With wobbly legs, I figured I needed a coffee and a pee, so that’s what I did. We waited for a few other stragglers, but no one showed, so we headed down County Rd 30, through Campbellford, Stirling and a couple other little towns, on our way to the meeting place just outside of Trenton off the 401. Thanks to Chico for the uneventful guided tour of roads I’ve not travelled in this area as yet, and for NOT getting us lost!!!! It’s a good thing the start of this ride was the 10 acre Truck Stop, as we most CERTAINLY needed the space for all the bikes that showed up on this “unknown & tentative” weather day. Upon arrival and the usual rounds to say hello to our familiars and introductions to those who were newly met, and registration was taken care of, I wandered around snapping pictures, when Scary Larry, President of Perfect Pigs MC, called me over, to introduce me to Mr. Don Norris. What an honor it was meeting one of the Toronto and area legends of the MC type. And what fabulous conversation we were able to have in between everyone mingling about, awaiting the start of the ride… the history of MC’s in and around the Toronto area is something that I find fascinating, and Don’s oratory was spellbinding to say the least. I took a trip inside the restaurant, after being given a breakfast voucher, which was greatly appreciated, but I was not in the mood for food, so pocketed it for a souvenir. There were as many participants in the restaurant as out in the parking lot, and I was TRULY impressed with the turnout! When departure time approached, Scary took to the microphone and introductions were made all around. Lou DeVuono of the Perfect Pigs MC and organizer of the ride, took the mike to explain that this day was made to honor ALL veterans and pay respect to those who’ve died and have been injured protecting our freedoms. Pastor Dave gave us the honor of saying a ride prayer as well as a blessing of the bikes on this day. A second ride prayer, given by Isaac Furtado, capped the formalities. Finally, at 11:30 the call to mount was given. Instructions that we were to ride in a 2 second staggered formation for the duration of the ride were told to the participants, and we all saddled up for the ride down the 401. WHAT A SIGHT TO SEE…. as 117 registered bikes and an actual count of 134 bikes at the end of the ride seemed like 8 miles of solid motorcycles entering the 401 from the truck stop, and we all routinely set an easy pace as we cruised the left lane as one solid pack. I was placed about 1/3 of the way from the front, with all The Brotherhood members surrounding me to ensure my safety, I happily settled in for my first ride on the 401. I had no worries. Fuse, Chico, Paulie and Don Norris had me surrounded. THANKS GUYS!!! The other users of the highway showed actual smarts, and did NOT interrupt the group, nor did we have to deal with stupid ones thinking they can cut into the pack either, so that was a good thing. Upon arrival at Iroquois Park in Whitby it was great to see the mass of bikes all lined up in rows and the gleam of the chrome matched the smiles all around. I managed to get a boost up to the top of a hydro box to get some group shots for submission, as the microphone was re-assembled and everyone gathered around. Presentation of the donations collected, including the 50/50 collection was $1,204.00, which was gratefully accepted by Captain Wayne Johnston of J1 Casualty Admin O, Joint Task Force Central/Land Force Central Area Headquarters. Other Door Prizes were given out as well, and huge thanks go out to GP Bikes of Ajax, FineLine Tattoo, Toronto, and 10 Acre Truck Stop for their prize contributions. For a first event, this one promises that the next one will be bigger and better. Loyalty & Respect to those who serve and who have served in the past, Cookie says THANK YOU.
The day before this event, I was scheduled to go to Full Throttle Motor Company to have some work done on my little Suzuki, due to a mishap it had with my buddy’s van the week before. Me, my buddy & his van were fine, but my Suzi’s windshield got smashed, as well as the clutch lever’s little knobby end broke off, and needed to be replaced. My original plan was to go to Fenelon, have the work done, then come home & leave the next morning around 6 am on the 30th to attend Bernie’s BurnOut, but the ol’ man suggested that I call Rick & Vanessa and make arrangements to crash at their place for the night, which would let me sleep a little later, and not have to make 2 trips to basically the same location at 2.5 hours a trip.. Calls and arrangements were made, and I had a bed reserved, so after packing an overnight bag and strapping everything I needed for the next day on the p-pad, off I went to the wilds of Fenelon!! Traffic was negligible, surprisingly so for a Friday afternoon, and I took my usual back-road twisty route to get there, with no interesting incidents, although riding without my little windshield, actually made a whole LOT of difference in the wind differential, hitting me in the chest, rather than flow reasonably over my head as it used to do, I was looking forward to getting it fixed!! Safe arrival, and quick installation, had me in & out of Bob’s shop in record time, as I made my way down to Lindsay, just as the clouds decided to part and sprinkled just enough to slick up the roads. I was not far away from my destination, and already into town, so I stopped for a quick sub, and proceeded to interrupt Bernie Guindon as he played a game of spider solitaire on his laptop, relaxing and getting rested for tomorrow’s big day. (I just finished reading a great book, Riding With Attitude, by our own Don Norris, and it seems at a certain age, this tends to happen to some…. does that happen to others, too?? I’ll have to investigate that further, and will advise any outcome) Rick n’ Vanessa were out doing last minute organizing for the ride, and finally got home, as Rick’s sister, Janet arrived, and we all proceeded to drink Timmy’s & laugh & joke for hours… and hours…and hours…. And at 2 am, we lady’s all decided we REALLY had to get some sleep, and off we went for the next 5 hours or so of some much needed sleep. Up early, with the sun, we quickly got dressed and ready for the day. A huge pile of people gathered @ Rick’s place to head up to the ride together in order to catch a quick breakfast buffet that was being offered. I grabbed an orange juice (I don’t eat during the day) and registered for the ride. There were patches available for this now annual ride, the 1st being a “Bernie’s Burn Out” large patch, along with this years benefactor patch, “Doggy Style”. There was also a Memorial Patch made that was available in honor of Don “Doggy” Emby, and I got myself one of those as well. From my understanding there ARE still memorial patches left, and if you’d like one, please get in touch with me, and I’ll forward your request to the organizers. I can be reached through my email address: cookiechick at sympatico dot ca for those who would like one and don’t have one as yet. All proceeds from the patch sales go directly to Doggy’s widow, Annie Pigeon. Around 11 am, a call was made to get ready to mount our steel steeds (in my case, plastic sewing machine steed, hehehehe) and get ready for the ride. As there were over 80 motorcycles, they decided for safety sake, to split the packs of bikes into 4 different groups with a 5 minute pause between the packs. I was happy to learn that I would again be surrounded by my good friends and protectors from the Brotherhood M.C., Fuse, Jewell, Chico who again ensured that I was safe by circling me to the front, right, and behind. THANKS GUYS n’ GALS!! YOU ROCK!!! We meandered our way through many twist’s and curves and great roads that are found all over this wonderful area of the province. The 1st stop being Full Throttle Motor Company’s location in Fenelon Falls, we pulled in, drew our cards and were out of there fast, as the 3rd pack was just pulling in behind us. My 1st card was a reasonable one, a Jack of Diamonds. We re-mounted and headed out to the 2nd stop in Bobcaygeon, where I managed am 8 of hearts and grabbed a quick smoke as a few grabbed some gas. . Along the way, there was one participant that had some mechanical issues, and pulled over to the side of the road along the way. It seems that not everyone knows or is aware, that if, during an event or ride, when a bike has a mechanical breakdown, that there is ALWAYS a back up vehicle at the end of the packs, for just such occasions, and that the pack should ALWAYS stick together, and NOT have everyone pull over to see what’s wrong. Be confident that the support vehicle WILL stop and assist the one who is in trouble, so there is NO NEED for the whole pack to pull over to assist. PLEASE keep this in mind the next time you’re out and participating in an event. This format ensures that the ride/run maintains its schedule, and does not interfere with the event. Now we were off again to stop #3 in Buckhorn, where the local PoPo were kind enough to follow us into the stop, to ensure we arrived safely (faithful reader, please note my tongue in cheek comment here, and I’m POSITIVE they were after a photo op, but don’t know for sure). I managed to draw a 10 of clubs, and it was looking pretty hopeful for me to pull a straight, which just MIGHT get me a prize @ the end!!! It was in Buckhorn where we took a short, quick break, in order to grab a quick ice cream cone or a quick bathroom break. With this done and taken care of, the 3rd pack had already arrived, and we all decided we were going to head to the next stop together. Along this route, our road arrived at a dead end, 3-way stop. Fuse pulled up and out to perform blocking duties, to the vehicles stopped to our left in order for the pack to flow smoothly and safely through the intersection. After a good 1/3 of the pack had rolled through, those remaining all watched in horror as the pick up truck that was stopped with a horse trailer in tow, attempted to drive right over Fuse, and he reacted as is his norm, by yelling in a HUGE voice for the driver to stop, as the rest of the pack who witnessed this action, proceeded to give the guy our 1 fingered salutes and hollered our voices at the guy as well, as the rest of the 50 or so riders passed by without incident. As we arrive in Omemee for the 4th stop, this stop was designated as a wait stop, anyhow, as when our 2nd group arrived, the 1st was still there, and it was decided that we all would await the arrival of the rest of the riders, in order for the WHOLE pack of bikes participating could ride in together to the 5th and final stop of the day. The Omemee stop got me a 7 of clubs, which left me with 1 card to draw for the straight, and I sent up a quick PLEASE give me a 9 Prayer as we all mounted up to head to Lindsay for the last stop. As we departed Omemee, we took a left on some road just west of town ((I’m horrible with names)) when I saw one guy on his decker try to pull up and around in order to perform blocking duties to the oncoming vehicular traffic, when he and his bike took a little tumble in a small amount of sandy gravel, but managed to right his bike quickly, with only 3 or 4 changes to the bright shades of red that appeared on his face. The rest of the riders managed to make the tight turn without incident, as we all ran a tight pack and headed to Captain’s for awards, food, and music. Upon arrival in Lindsay, we all parked and dis-mounted, and all drew our last cards. I wound up with another Jack, so my hand was a wash, with a pair of jacks. The organizer’s and volunteers were there en masse, and were doing a brisk bit of sales of patches, t-shirts and other things that were available to buy. People mingled and enjoyed each others company, and chit-chatted about the day. Colt Harley arrived and set up quickly to give the participants an enjoyable interlude of great music while we waited for the announcements to begin. Annie Pigeon (Doggy’s Ol’ lady) as well as Doggy’s mom, Olive Emby as well as Doggy’s Sister, were there to meet & greet with everyone, and extend their thanks and appreciation for the honor being shown them this day. Rick took the microphone, as we all waited in anticipation for the results of the poker hands and winners. Best Hand and 1st prize of $500 went out to Lurch from the Brotherhood M.C. 2nd best hand and $250 was won by Grant from Peterborough, and 3rd prize of $100 went to Sherry, Chico’s wife from the Brotherhood M.C. as well. Worst hand and $50 was won by Road Dogs M.C.’s Roy Boy’s wife, Rose with an 8 high hand. I, as well as the organizers would like to thank all those who donated their time, efforts, prizes and attendance, as well as those who provided the stops and their hospitality. Without you all, none of this would be possible. Mark your calendars for next year, as this will definitely be an annual event.
Full Throttle Motor Company Open House May 23, 2009 It’s always nice to see progress, whether it’s a long established business, or not. So it was on this sunny Saturday in May, when I headed out for a nice 2 hour drive to Fenelon Falls to attend Full Throttle Motor Company’s Open House. It’s a great trip into Apsley along County Rd 46, then onto 504. From there its south on 28, East on 36 to Buckhorn, then continue on through Bobcaygeon and then into Fenelon. Traffic is slim to none, which is JUST fine with me, even though the “weekenders” from the city have already begun their trips up to this beautiful part of the province. Fenelon traffic is typical of a Saturday afternoon, though, so with tunes cranked in my Black Beauty of a truck, I arrive at my destination. As usual, I’m late for almost everything, and today was no exception. I had planned on being in attendance for Noon, but wound up leaving at that time, and arriving around 2 in the afternoon. Thinking that the parking lot would be full of bikes, I decided to park next door to Full Throttle so I wouldn’t hinder the bikes and take up too much space, which, once I walked to the driveway’s entrance, I realized I’d had a good idea! The place was PACKED!!! People milling about everywhere, the scent of BBQ burgers n’ dogs in the air, and there were miles of smiles on everyone’s faces, enjoying the company and the day with friends & acquaintances alike. Typical greetings were made to all I knew, and introductions were made with those I didn’t. It was great seeing Mike & Cheryl from DynaBalls, as well as Jim Newell from Lite Rider as well. I took a quick tour around the shop, and was amazed at how nice and neat and tidy things were, and saw that the only “part” that was visible was my ol’ man’s oil can that we’d been waiting for had finally come in. ((This was the reason I took my truck rather than ride, since my little Suzi wouldn’t be able to accommodate the chrome oil tank without incident, no matter how many bungee cords I used, and I didn’t want to take a chance, either way!)). I then took a trip up the steps in the shop, to take a look at the renovations that had been in the works for a couple of weeks, (and the reason for the open house). Bob has changed things around so that he now has a store in the upper part of the shop space, which is bright, full of light, and set up in a great way to display the different products that he now carries. Helmets, Jackets, T-shirts, and some novelty items that attach to your helmet are now available to be purchased, along with your necessities, like batteries and oil and spark plugs as well. Past & present copies of your beloved Rider’s Mag can be had from their own dedicated rack, which was nice to see too. I managed to stick my head out the window and get a couple of group shots from up above, and between laughing & joking with my friends, I managed to wolf down a quick hot dog, which was yummy, grab a can of pop and sit down to chit chat with everyone. Another great day with great people…. Can’t ask for much more than that, eh??
Whispers from Cottage Country – May 2009 The Brotherhood MC – May 2-4 Weekend – Frog & Rose Tie the Knot!! As is usual for most clubs (if not all) to have your bike on the road, insured and ready to ride, the May 2-4 weekend is also the Unofficial “START” of the summer riding season… (Except for the fact that this weekend actually fell on the 16th, 17th, & 18th…which is WEIRD to say the least!!!) And like years past, the chance of frost & flurries didn’t dampen the spirits or the rain damper the smiles when we all gathered at the Sparrow Lake Property to witness the marriage of Rose & Frog. Whether by truck, bike or car, members, brothers, friends and family gathered to be a part of this great day. I was all prepared to leave 5 hours before the event, so I had plenty of time to ride out to the property, but the weather gods were NOT going to oblige me….My rain riding experiences are slim to none, ((except for homeward bound after a certain PHOTOSHOOT I did, but I won’t whine about that here)) and with the length of distance I was about to undertake, and the lightning that was happening, I loaded up my truck “Black Beauty” and off I went, sadly leaving my little Suzuki behind L You’d think that after all the times I’ve been up to this great piece of property, I’d have a CLUE how to get there… but silly me, wound up in Gravenhurst, before realizing my directions were from Orillia, and not Washago! A quick call to Vinny, and I was headed in the right direction…. And actually made it there AHEAD of time!!! Typical rounds were made to greet everyone, and check out the preparations going on all around me to make this a super special day for everyone. People hustled & bustled about, in preparation for the ceremony, as Chico and a few other members put up gazebo’s to protect the food tables, and Cathy, Linda and a few of the other lady’s decorated the archway. It was quite the challenge and pretty funny at times, seeing their efforts getting blown away in the wind, but we all managed to pitch in to catch things before they got blown into oblivion. All the bikes were called to the ready, and lined up to make a gleaming aisle of chrome for Frog’s grand-daughter, Hailey carrying the flowers and Dianne looking gorgeous as maid of honor, to accompany the beautiful bride down the aisle, where Frog & Kenny stood in wait with ear to ear smiles and admiration for Rose’s beauty reflected on their faces. (I think Frog had tears, but I don’t think he’d admit to that!!!) Pastor Dave, from Kawartha Bikers Church presided over the ceremony in his booming baritone voice, performed the proceedings and I don’t think he left a dry eye anywhere in the crowd, and the chilly (and according to Rose, FUCKEN FREEZING) winds didn’t deter her from looking fabulous, and Frog looking dapper while they exchanged their promises to each other this day. They weren’t the typical vows heard at most weddings, and I thought it was pretty special, the way they promised themselves to eternity and beyond. After all the formalities were done, it was time to sign the paperwork, and being that there wasn’t a guestbook as is customary with most weddings, Frog asked that each & every person present, sign the back of their certificate as proof that we all saw and heard what happened there this day. I thought the gesture was a pretty cool thing to do, and all the signatures and well wishes were duly placed on the papers. The festivities continued, the bar was open, and hugs and congrats were made all around, as everyone gathered to enjoy the TONS of food that was there for all to enjoy. All the Bunnies of the Hood got together to contribute their skills & give everyone in attendance a feast fit for king & queen alike, and between Tracey & Jewell’s meatballs, Linda’s salads and wickedly devilish eggs, and a zillion other things that I can’t even remember, we all had plates piled high with food. The guys had the bonfire going for most of the day, and now that the serious issues had been dealt with, it was time to get into some serious celebrating that The Brotherhood is famous for doing. Tunes were blaring, and happy faces all around, we all watched as Frog & Rose finally cut the cake, and both wound up with face-full’s of icing, which was QUITE the sight to see. I mingled and chatted and hung around with everyone for a couple more hours, and then it was time to go. I said my good-byes to all I could find, and cranked up the tunes for the ride home. THANKS BROTHERHOOD for everything, and everyone…. I’m honored to be a friend to you all…..

Review of the criminal action concerning the Mongols Motorcycle Club currently pending in California.
The United States Attorney's office filed an indictment in United States District Court for the Western District of California in Los Angeles on October 9, 2008. Indicted were 79 members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club. Charges included murder, attempted murder, drug trafficking and money laundering.
October 21, 2008. The federal court ordered that the trademark of the Mongols could not be sold to anyone else, and that the Mongols could do nothing to decrease the market value of the trademark.
Further, the court ordered, that not only the defendants, but their fellow club members, family and friends, must surrender all property bearing the Mongols trademark. This includes clothing, patches, motor vehicles, motorcycles, merchandise and any other item bearing the Mongols trademark.
This order was signed under the legal concept of civil forfeiture. Civil forfeiture allows the courts and law-enforcement to seize properties that are alleged to be tools of a crime, or the assets resulting from a crime.
In my opinion, civil forfeiture violates due process in several regards.
Property is seized upon an allegation of a crime, not after the conviction of a crime. Once the property is seized, the burden of proving that it is not related to crime falls on the owner of the property, not the government. Replevin, the legal term for "give me my stuff back,” is an expensive process. The person whose property has been seized must incur legal costs that may exceed the value of the property.
In the case against the Mongols, property is being seized from people who were not even indicted. Several hundred other Mongols have had property confiscated, or are subject to having their property confiscated. Friends and family of club members face seizure of their property.
The Confederation of Clubs and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists intend to challenge the constitutionality of civil forfeiture in the Mongols case. The CoC and NCOM and will not be intervening in the criminal part of the case against the individual members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club.
December 5, 2008. The government's first status report to the court indicates that many of the defendants are already in custody, but a few all are still at large. The government has 4,000 pages of documents including wiretap documents, law enforcement reports and financial documents that are to be made available to the defendants' attorneys. The original trial date is set for July 21, 2009.
May 4, 2009. The government files a motion asking the court to seal, and keep from public disclosure, all plea bargains that are pending, or have been accepted. In spite of the requirement for public trials and the freedom of the press, the government argues that defendant Mongols who accept the plea bargain may face retaliation from other members of the Mongol club.
May 26, 2009. The court orders that each plea agreement will be filed under seal only if it is accompanied by evidence that the particular defendant will be prejudiced by the publication of the plea bargain.
June 1, 2009. The Associated Press files a motion to intervene in the case for the sole purpose of requiring the court to unseal and make public, plea bargains of the defendant Mongols.
June 4, 2009. The court sets a new trial date of November 24, 2009 for all defendants who have not entered into a plea agreement.
June 10, 2009. The court sets argument for the motion of the Associated Press to be heard on August 5 and 6, 2009.
Current status: The motion by Associated Press will be heard on August 5 and 6, 2009, after which the Court will rule. Some of the defendants have made plea agreements and will not face trial. Those who have not pled will be tried on November 24, 2009.
The Civil Forfeiture Order is still in force. It is unclear how long that order will stay in effect after the conclusion of the trial. It may be rescinded in whole, or it may be modified only to include those defendants who pled guilty or were found guilty. Any Mongol who is convicted will most likely appeal that conviction.
During the appeal of that conviction, it is the intent of the Coalition of Clubs and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists to file an Amicus Curiae, or friend of the court brief concerning the civil forfeiture issue only.
At a minimum, it is hoped that the government will be forced to return all seized property from non-indicted Mongols, family and friends of Mongols, and acquitted Mongols. Hopefully this gross violation of due process will be eliminated, or at least diminished.
Yours truly,
Boyd Spencer, Esq. Aid to Injured Motorcyclists Attorney for Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Law Offices of Richard M. Lester.

YAAAA FRIGGEN HOOO!!!! It was awesome...... Monday was the day.... weather was cool but reasonable, but with the "wind Chill" still on the records, I bundled up in the required 4 layers and ventured out to get my "riding" legs back... Haven't been riding since the 2nd week in November, and my PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) had kicked in by November 25th!!!!
It was cold, I was stiff & sore... my throttle hand needs to build it's calluses back up, so blisters have formed..... But the shit-eaten grin on my face is STILL there!!! This is a picture of the speedo on my Suzuki to signify the start of my mileage calculations...It's sideways, and I don't know how to fix it!!! But you get the idea!!!!

Whispers from Cottage Country…. July 2008-1 Art Weller’s Memorial 3 years ago, the Black Diamond Riders lost a lifetime member, when Art passed away from the dreaded “C”. Shortly before his passing, he was in attendance @ the Orangeville Legion’s Show & Shine, and although in constant pain, he was there the whole day, and was always found with a smile on his face, and nice things to say to everyone there. The day dawned cloudy, overcast & was quite threatening with rain, so we were doubtful, but hopeful that this event was a go. I gave a quick call to the hosts of this event, Wheels & Donna, and got a resounding “Sunshine is happening” to make our decision to go. The whole family minus our son piled in the van n’ off we went. When we arrived, things were in full swing…. Bike’s were parked out front of the vast property, gazebo’s were up and sheltering everyone from the sun’s rays (and the rain’s drops when it finally came)… smiles were everywhere, and the “HiHowAreYa’s” were being uttered. Our own Ribald Roving Reporter Critter was in attendance, and as always, it was a pleasure to see the expression on his face when we arrived. Wheels approached, and asked what we were having, offering up a plethora of different drinks, sodas, food and refreshments. He told us that the #1 rule was that you HAD TO have food in one hand, and a drink of some sort in the other, and if one hand was empty, it was their duty to fill it!!!! So choices were made, seats were found, and all the guests got spoiled rotten. The tables were laden with different choices of food, and on order, you could enjoy a burger, hot dog or even a steak!!!.... The potato salad was a HUGE hit, and was delicious to say the least, and it was difficult to decide what you wanted, because the selection was so plentiful. Johnny was holding court around his dozen or so photo albums, and I was glad to find a few good shots of myself @ one or the other previous events, so snagged a couple for my collection. Then he offered up some new shirts he’d had made, and not 10 minutes after opening the bins, there was a line up to buy them! Business was brisk, and the choice & availability continues to grow, which is nice when you’re a LADY, and looking for “chick” shirts to wear… HAHAHA…. Sitting around, with good friends and laughter, and remembering a man who impacted everyone he met in his lifetime, is what keeps their memory’s alive, and there is NO DOUBT that Art was well loved, well respected, and was held in high regard by everyone. I look forward to next year, when we can do it all again.
Whispers from Cottage Country…. July 2008-2 Charlie’s Indian Days There are few FREE events across this province, which are well known, well attended, and permanently etched on people’s calendars. One of these events, for the past 25 years, is Charlie’s Indian Days in Campbellford, ON. The day was beautiful…perfect weather, where the sun stays shining, and the temperatures, although HOT, were livable at least. And the proximity to the water was close enough that you were cool in the shade, and toasty in the sun. The saddest part is that this year marks the events LAST occurrence, unless the city of Campbellford, or one of its many clubs or organizations, takes up the challenge of putting it on again. Charlie’s Indian Days began when a few of Charlie’s buddy’s would drop by on the 1st Saturday in July, to shoot the breeze, catch up with each other’s lives, and put some burgers on the “Q”, while chit-chatting about their bikes and rides and experiences since the last time, and it has expanded ever since. This years turn out was tremendous, and Charlie’s daughter, Mary Jo was all smiles when we arrived to donate to her and Charlie’s shop, a street sign that said “INDIAN RD. CRES.” that we’d acquired in our travels, that seemed to belong in her dad’s shop, and not in ours. A huge thanks from her was given, as well as an opportunity for a photo op, and off we went, the ole man n’ I, to check out the sights and the bikes @ the show!!! The whole of Grand Road, in front of Charlie’s shop, was lined on both sides with bikes of all kinds, reminiscent of Port Dover, but with 1 lane of traffic going either way still allowed, but the classic cars & trucks that drove in between them were also a sight to behold, and they drove so slowly, you could carry on conversations with the driver’s as they went by. We wandered up one side of the street, and down the other, and as we were walking along the river side of the street, happened upon Bernie, Rick & the crew from Full Throttle Motor Company, sitting beneath one of the many gazebos, relaxing in the shade. Hello’s n’ hugs were given all around, and the congrats & thanks started coming my way for the article I wrote on their behalf about Bernie’s Burn-Out Poker Run. We discussed the possibilities for next year’s events, and I promised to be there on my OWN bike for the run to come, and I can’t wait!!! We checked our watches, as everyone looked pretty beat from the heat and the day’s happenings, so we said our good-bye’s, and meandered back to our parking spot. We ran into Speed from the Boozefighters along the way, and his buddy from the C.A.V. (Canadian Army Veterans) who’d made the ride up from Belleville, and while talking to them, Pastor Dave & Karen, of Kawartha Biker’s Church who’d also made the trip down to see the sights from Peterborough, stopped to say hello. It was great seeing everyone, and promises were made to see each other again another day. As it happens, I read an article in the local newspaper, that this event is NOT going to end, and that some individual citizens, a few of the local service clubs, as well as a few members of the town council will endeavor to hold this event in honor of Indian Charlie in the years to come. I’m sure we’ll hear more as the time gets closer, and I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on this, so that I’m able to approach the organizers to become advertisers in the future. ADDENDUM: Bernie Dempsey and his friend, John McEvoy have decided to keep the motorcycle day tradition alive in town, and continue the event. It will now be known as "Chrome on the Canal", and will be held the same day as always. The first Saturday in July...this year is on the 4th. It will be in the same location, and we are expanding by having more vendors, more food, etc. There will be dash plaques for participants and T-shirt sales as well. This event has been a 25 year tradition in this community, as we felt it should be continued, as so many people look forward to it, and it is always an enjoyable day for motorcycle enthusiasts, as well as car people. It is a beautiful location, and is great for families, as kids can bring their fishing poles to cast a line in the water. As well, this year we will be providing a shuttle bus to take ladies to our new Giant Tiger, the cheese factory, and the Chocolate Factory outlet store that is well known for it's great deals on chocolate. We are getting the local restaurants on board, and there will be many specials in town, for people attending the event. It should be a great time, and we are hoping that we will get the attendance that it had in the past...especially with the improvements we are planning. If anyone is interested in being a vendor for CHROME ON THE CANAL, please feel free to get in touch with me, and I’ll get your message to the organizers!!!
Whispers from Cottage Country…. July 2008-3 Road Dogs M.C. Family Day As some of you may, or may not know, I’m the Recording Secretary for the Ontario Confederation of Clubs. Holding this position for the past 2 years or so, DOES have its privileges, in that I’m able to attend many different functions throughout the year for the many different clubs & organizations that belong to the Confederation. Today was no exception. It was calling for a kind of gloomy day, but with nothing demanding my attention for the day, I decided to have a mom/daughter day, and take off for the wilds of Ramara, and attend this event with Wiggie in tow. I haven’t yet, attempted to take passengers on my bike with me, and the weather was Yuk to say the least, so we jumped in my truck for the day instead. Being that I’m directionally challenged on occasion, I attempted a bunch of times, to enter the direct address of this event into the ole man’s Garmin, but to no avail was I able to get the chick in the box to tell me how to get there from here, so I had to resort to the old way of doing things, and grabbed my map to plot my route. I was trying everything to avoid dealing with the “weekender’s” home-going, being that this event was being held on a Sunday, so I decided that back roads were the way to go, so I wrote the directions down on a paper, and off we went to see if the map was right!....... Up to Apsley, over to 28, west on 118, then over to 45 and the 169 to Roach’s property…… WOW what a great bunch of scenery, and wicked twisty roads, hills and views!!!..... I can’t wait to try this out on my bike!!! We pull into the long drive, and it’s still drizzling out, but that didn’t dampen the turnout for this event…… there were bikes, trikes, and people everywhere! Road Dogs M.C., RedLine M.C., a pile of Southern Cruisers from the Orillia chapter, a few members of HAMC and many other friends and family were there. The kids were having a ball, playing on the trampoline, despite the rain, and I guess at the end of the day, the dirtier they are before bed, the more fun they had that day. Seems that it goes without saying, for the adults too!! Wiggie & I were told to go and help ourselves to the MASS of food that was being offered, pork or roast beef on a bun, sausages, hotdogs, and a ton of leafy green stuff as well as potato salads and the like were there for the eating. The row of BBQ’s (I think there were 6 of them) weren’t being shut off, and the food just kept being offered. Huge tents were set up along the front of the house, a bar was set up and the party was in full swing!!!..... Greetings and introductions were taken care of, and it was time to wander around taking pictures. Seems I’ve got an ongoing issue with my digital camera, and finding batteries that’ll last for more than 10 pictures, but, alas, today was another day of fighting with the stupid things, but lucky me, I remembered to buy myself one of those disposable things, and got the pics onto disk after the event. Despite the crap weather (I’ve been hearing that A LOT this summer), they decided to start the games, and it was nothing but hilarious to watch slow races on the slippery lawns, the weenie bite, where the participants got more rain in their eyes, never mind their lips on the weenies, and a very cool game that I’d not seen before, “Bottles in the haystack” which is done kind of the same as the Brotherhoods Rope Game. Although there weren’t many participants in the games, we all laughed our asses off watching the antics of those brave enough to try. It’s nice to have a day and place that you can bring your kids to a bike event, not have to worry about them, and have all the people welcome you and make you feel at home. The Road Dogs M.C. has this, and more. This was a great celebration, as well as a congrats & Good Luck party, as their president, Roach, was accepted to the Harley Mechanic’s school in Alberta, and left a few weeks later for NAIT. We all wish him the best of luck in his mission, and we’re all hoping that he’ll come back in a few months with his ticket to wrench our Harley’s.
The Brotherhood’s Halloween Party With a pretty awesome flyer showing up in my inbox about a month ago, it gave me some time to think about what kind of costume I would come up with…. And I decided that “Boo Skeery” would suffice, so with a little help from “Cookie Dough” ((Dammit, Tim, she LIKES that nickname!!!)) I managed to goop up my hair to double its size, got make-upped and glittered, and finally got dressed in black n’ flames…. I’m not quite sure WHAT I was supposed to be, but fuck it, at least I’m dressed up, right?? My 2 guys n’ I drove the truck the hour or so to Nazi’s place and arrived not too early and not too late either. “The Bunker” is such an interesting place to be, with so many different things to see there, you’d need a couple of undisturbed hours to look at everything closely. Nazi & his lovely lady, Shelley have done an amazing job of converting their basement into a place that can hold 200 +/- people, with an awesome fireplace in the main room along with the bar, which leads into another HUMUNGUS room with pool table and a whole shitload of couches to lounge or sprawl or crash out on. I’d not visited there for a while previous to this, and the changes that were made since the last time, just impressed the hell out of me, and it was great to see Nazi’s vision come to life. The place was already buzzing with the early comers, the tables were laden with great smelling food that made our mouths water, and regret the ‘sliders’ we ate on the run over. There were more people in costume than were NOT in some sort of get up or another. Anything from Jewell’s sexy Cop outfit (BOY-O-BOY was she sexy!!) to a dead bride and her groom celebrating their actual REAL 15th wedding anniversary. ((CONGRATS you two!!!)) There was a witch there who kind of resembled Tracey and I don’t know WHAT Haircut was supposed to be, but his costume had chains and a seriously frightening facemask!!! I saw a bumble bee, a little devil chick, a German Military Officer, in full uniform, a cow, a guy that looked pretty beat up, and I’m not quite sure, but I THINK Scott was “Dumbledore” from the Harry Potter series, and I wish I could’ve gotten a closer look at his “wizard staff”, because it was pretty cool looking, if you ask me! Tunes were cranked, people were dancing, videos of past parties were being displayed on TV sets throughout the basement, pool balls were clacking… we mingled, we chatted, and we all were laughing our asses off at each other…..when all of a sudden the roar of police sirens brought a pile of us rushing up the stairs to see what the hell was going on….. In the driveway, pulls a van with 2 very serious looking Police Officers, lights a-flashing, sirens a-roaring…. Behind the van comes a BUS, loaded with 18 (or so) Prisoners, chains, wrist shackles, leg shackles, the whole 9 yards!!!! NO ONE knew what was happening with the lights n’ sirens and no one but Nazi and I knew that all was well and nobody had a thing to worry about. Everyone BUT the prisoners on the bus!!! It turns out that as they rounded the corner into the driveway, the transmission on the bus gave one mighty loud “KACHUNK” and came to a resounding STOP at the mouth of the driveway!!!!! UHOH spaghetti-o!!!... No one can come in….. and no one can get out now because the bus is blocking the entrance, so the officers in the van get out of their vehicle, and proceed to escort their prisoners off the bus, to the back of the bus, and command them to PUSH that bus off the driveway and away from the entrance, and proceed down the driveway towards the house. The crowd’s jaws drop, some look worried, and the next thing we know, the “Crew” from Full Throttle Motor Company in Fenelon Falls have arrived!!!! It was the most hilarious thing to see the looks that some were giving the new arrivals, considering they didn’t know who they were, but once things were explained to them, you could see the smiles and the look of being impressed that a crew of 20 or so people came to the party as organized as these guys and gals always seem to be. The rooms were now packed, the kitchen was hosting Skin-Deep Tattoo’s new store launch in the Toronto area, the bar area of the basement was doing a brisk business, the back room had line-ups waiting to play pool, and even outside in the yard, people were out enjoying the mild weather. I’m not sure what time it was, but there didn’t seem to be any lull in the festivities, we were all having a ton of fun, when there was an announcement that all attendees were required to come to the bar and fill out their votes for best costume. About a ½ hour later, last call for voting came in, and shortly thereafter, it was announced that the best female costume prize went to Tracey (Mrs. Haircut), best male costume went to Scott T, the Full Throttle Crew received the People’s Choice award, Sexiest Female Costume went to Jewel, and the best scary couple went to the Anniversary Couple, with their dead bride and groom costumes, Rick & Tammy When I finally realized that it was getting close to 3 in the morning, we said our good-byes, and made our way home, with only one ride-check along the way, which we breezed through without incident. As Critter has said time and time again, it’s not about the “Club”, it’s about the people that are the members of the club, that make all the difference in the world……… and any event that The Brotherhood puts on, is not just another family day for me, but it’s like coming home… ((And what a wonderful place that can be)). I’m honored to call these guys my friends, Brothers, Sisters all … and look forward to each and every moment spent in their presence….
R.I.P… Don “Doggy” Emby When the sun is shining, it’s sometimes hard to be somber, and yet the tears were flowing freely throughout the gathering of mourners to say their final good-bye to Don “Doggy” Emby. Not many people during their lifetime can say they have not truly found their calling, nor as Pastor Dave of Kawartha Bikers Church said, “Find their reason for being on this earth”, and Doggy was one of the lucky ones who did. Doggy is famous (some say Infamous) in the worlds of motorcyclists, trucks, classic cars, and even Fire Trucks. His skill for working with the talent that God gave him, to be able to produce the wonderful artwork, and breath taking paint jobs that he did, was truly a gift. Doggy’s passing was sudden, and completely unexpected, but when your gas lines become plugged, and your motor decides it’s pumped its last thump, your time has come. His love, Annie, is beyond devastated, but held her head high, and was sincerely grateful for the showing of love and support from friends new & old, family, and the many others who showed up to pay their respects at the CVC Church in Peterborough, on Saturday, November 01, 2008. The parking lot was full to overflowing, with so many motorcycles in attendance; it was hard to get a final count. We all mingled and said quiet hello’s to those we’d not seen in a while and gentle hugs to those who we have. It is always wonderful to see your friends and brothers and sisters, you just wish that sometimes the circumstances were on a happier note. Doggy is survived by his best friend and beloved partner, Annie, the loving father of son Chad and his wife Kerrie. Doggy’s mother, Olive, his sister, Eleanor and her children Sarah and Travis; have been left behind to pick up the scattered pieces that Doggy’s sudden death has created. Vanessa Berry in Thunder Bay suffers the loss of her god-father quite deeply as well. Doggy was born on December 4, 1943, and was in his 65th year when he died a peaceful death at home on October 26th, 2008. His work brought him too many places from Florida to California, and all the way north to Canada. He has painted everything from t-shirts to helmets to leather jackets, fire hydrants, tents, dream catchers, motorcycles, cars and so many other things, it’s hard to remember them all. Huge thank you’s are being sent to all those who contributed to the fund raiser held for Annie, Olive and the family. Gone, but never forgotten, another angel is born.
